Sgian Dubh Information
The name comes from the Gaelic 'sgian dubh' meaning "black knife"; where black refers to the usual colour of the knifes handle which was traditionally made from bog oak.
The sgian dubh is a small knife which is worn in the sock, now as a token of peace and friendship in company. The sgian dubh is normally worn on the right leg but can also be worn on the left depending on the wearer.
